The Trend Edit: Embracing Our Carbon Copy Culture
Barrel Leg Jeans, Animal Print & The Row Dupes
Ah, fall fashion - a fan favorite of many - the subject of numerous “What’s In My Cart’s?”. We are now in the thick of it. The leaves are starting to change colors, and so are our wardrobes! As we slip into sweaters and swap out our summer pops for subdued shades, it’s impossible to ignore the overwhelming abundance of Oxblood Red, Studs and Suede that fills our feeds. I’m starting to think that social media is making us all look like carbon copies of one another, and honestly, who can blame us?
This week’s “What’s In My Cart” is all about those trending fall items that are inevitably turning us into a sea of stylish clones. Yes, we’ve all seen the same Sinched Waist Blazers, Patent Leather loafers, and Mary-Janes on the corner of Orchard & Canal St.
Here’s the thing: I’m guilty. I’m guilty of following the trends, especially trends this season. What makes the difference is picking and choosing which trends work for you and your personal taste. The beauty of trends is that they give us options. We can blend in while still maintaining a bit of our unique vibe. So yes, I might be wearing a shade of red in almost every outfit, as is half of NYC, but I’ll style it in a way that feels like Abbey.
The tricky thing about trends and what gets under my skin the most is that I’ve been wearing Bright Red, Animal Print & Canadian Tuxedos for years. And then society decided those were cool enough for everyone to do it!? I remind myself that once the dust settles and the trend-chasers move on to the next big thing, I’ll still be here, staying true to my style - and maybe even a step ahead of the curve.
In this week’s cart, we’ll explore the “must-haves” (subjective, obviously) of fall while reminding ourselves that it’s totally okay to embrace what’s right in front of you. After all, it’s not just about being a carbon copy; it’s about curating your own personal style from the trending chaos. So let’s lean into it—guilt and shame free!
Enjoy diving into this week’s cart. If we’re going to blend in, let’s do it right!
